 Meet our school governors

 Sara Dawson

Co-opted Governor

Chair of Governing Body

Term of office 22.10.14 - 21.10.18

I am a qualified accountant working in a Nottingham firm of Chartered Accountants that I jointly own and manage.  Most of my working life has been spent in Nottingham and I originally come from Mansfield.

I have been a governor pretty much since my son started in Foundation in 2011.  When the vacancy came up I was first in the queue to get involved.  Having lived around the corner from the school since 2004, the farm and the Eco-ethos of Edwalton has always appealed to me; this was where I wanted my children to learn.  Both my children now attend the school and I am also now proud to say I help contribute a little bit!

My current role is Chair of the Governing Body and I also support Simon Dare as Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee.

Simon Dare

Co-opted Governor

Vice Chair of Governing Body

Chair of Finance and Personnel Committee

Term of office 22.10.14 - 21.10.18

I am a Chartered Surveyor and associate Director of a local Commercial Surveying Practice, and have been practicing in Nottingham since the mid 1980’s. As a country boy at heart (I am a Wiltshire man) the schools farm and ethos has always appealed to me and consequently I have been unable to leave!

I have been involved with the Governing body for over 10 years now, having started as a parent Governor when my son was a pupil. He is now 17 but I still love to be involved at this very this special school. I have previously been Chair of the Governing Body and am currently Vice Chair and Chair of the Finance committee.

Lucy Shanahan

Chair of Curriculum and Pupils Committee

Term of office 21.11.13 - 20.11.17

I am a parent governor and I am the link governor for literacy along with being vice-chair of the curriculum committee. I have two children who are both at Edwalton and I work as a production manager for a large food manufacturer. Outside of Governors and work I like cooking, reading, decorating and camping!

Support Staff Governor- Liz Godber

Term of office 1.9.13 - 31.8.17

I have been a staff Governor since 2013. Both of my children attended Edwalton - my daughter Alex is currently studying chemistry at The University of Leeds and my son James is a Marine Engineer working in Portsmouth. I am a teaching assistant in Foundation and part of my role is to support the transition from pre-school to school. It is so rewarding to see our new children and parents settle into Edwalton school life. As a previous parent and now staff member I have a solid understanding of the schools ethos and culture and my aim is to represent this on the governing body.

Co-opted Governor

Term of office 23.11.16 - 23.11.20

My daughter started in Foundation in September 2016 and I was delighted to become a co-opted Governor shortly afterwards.

The school has lived up to my expectations and my daughter has settled in well in to school life, which is very reassuring. From day one, I was very impressed with the school, not only with the welcoming and friendly atmosphere, but the school's ethos and emphasis on environmental and sustainability issues.

I am a qualified Solicitor, specialising in employment law, and I currently work in Nottingham. I also grew up and was educated in Nottingham and three years ago I moved back after living and working in London for seven years. I believe that I can offer experience and commitment to my role as Governor and that I can make a positive contribution in supporting the school.

I have previously served as Non-Executive Director on the board at the Radford Care Group.

Baljinder Bansal

Co-opted Governor

Term of office 23.11.16 - 23.11.20

My name is Baljinder Bansal, but known as Bal. I grew up in Nottingham, went to local schools and college before university education at Coventry University. After my studies I moved to London, and started work as a Project Engineer for Kodak Ltd.

Since moving to London in 2002, I've worked for Kodak, GlaxoSmithKline and Coca-Cola. I have travelled around the world and learnt from many interesting and amazing people, such as having coffee with Shane Matthews (inventor of the Nerf Gun) and talking to the Head of Virtual Reality at Google.

I have since, in recent years, moved back to Nottingham and decided I wanted to give something back to the community. Therefore, deciding to become a Governor at Edwalton Primary School was an easy choice. Helping to grow the local community and support the school in any way possible, I'm more than happy to do.

 Jackie Earley

 Jackie Earley

Parent Governor

Term of office 05.07.17 - 05.07.21

As a mother of two students who are enrolled at Edwalton, I am keen to get involved and lend my voice, leadership and experience to the Governors Team. I am committed to ensuring that their school provides the best environment for success for not only themselves, but also the entire student body.

Having worked as an IT project manager for eight years and starting my own Estate Agency company for the following six years, I gained organisation, financial analysis and management skills. Working with large teams filled with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, I learned the importance of listening, clearly defining goals and breaking down those goals into achievable tasks.

In parallel to working as an Estate Agent, I lead a Park Advisory Committee, for three years, that worked with local government officials, community representatives and local businesses to raise $2.5m dollars to build a new park.  I personally helped raised $250k and was responsible for fiscal oversight as well as managing the funds from fundraising to expenditures, to ensure the highest returns were realised.

My extensive experience in management roles as well as leading volunteer organisations gives me the unique perspective to add value to the Edwalton Governors Team.
