Meet our school governors

Sara Dawson

Co-opted Governor

Chair of Governing Body

Term of office 22.10.14 - 21.10.18

I am a qualified accountant working in a Nottingham firm of Chartered Accountants that I jointly own and manage.  Most of my working life has been spent in Nottingham and I originally come from Mansfield.

I have been a governor pretty much since my son started in Foundation in 2011.  When the vacancy came up I was first in the queue to get involved.  Having lived around the corner from the school since 2004, the farm and the Eco-ethos of Edwalton has always appealed to me; this was where I wanted my children to learn.  Both my children now attend the school and I am also now proud to say I help contribute a little bit!

My current role is Chair of the Governing Body and I also support Simon Dare as Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee.

Simon Dare

Co-opted Governor

Vice Chair of Governing Body

Chair of Finance and Personnel Committee

Term of office 22.10.14 - 21.10.18

I am a Chartered Surveyor and associate Director of a local Commercial Surveying Practice, and have been practicing in Nottingham since the mid 1980’s. As a country boy at heart (I am a Wiltshire man) the schools farm and ethos has always appealed to me and consequently I have been unable to leave!

I have been involved with the Governing body for over 10 years now, having started as a parent Governor when my son was a pupil. He is now 17 but I still love to be involved at this very this special school. I have previously been Chair of the Governing Body and am currently Vice Chair and Chair of the Finance committee.

Co-opted Governor

Chair of Finance and Personnel Committee

Term of office 22.10.14 - 21.10.18

I have now been a governor for five years and chair the curriculum committee.  This oversees the different strategies and hard work that take place at Edwalton to deliver such a wide curriculum to a high standard, monitoring progress throughout the year.

I have three children, Joel in Rushcliffe Sixth Form, Cam in Year 9 at Rushcliffe and Milly in Year 6 at Edwalton.

Outside of ‘governing’, I am involved in several areas of unpaid work besides looking after the family.  Most time consuming are youth work at St Luke’s, where my husband is the vicar, youth mentoring, organising the West Bridgford LIFE sale and running CAP money management courses.

Ann Taylor

Co-opted Governor

Term of office 25.11.15 - 24.11.19

I came to Nottingham in 1997 to study Geography at the University of Nottingham and after graduating I joined a Nottingham property practice and I have stayed ever since. I have worked exclusively in Nottingham, for both national and regional practiices as a Chartered Surveyor and I am now Associate Director of a PLC Surverying Practice based in the  city centre. I have lived in Gamston for nearly 10 years and my daughter Mia joined the school in September 2015. She loves everything about the school and I think it is a very special place and I would like  to help other children get equal joy out of the school environment that Mia benefits from. I also have a 3 year old who I hope will join the school in 2017. I am a working mum who can't always be involved in all school activities, but I want to do the best for my own children as well as  others, and give something back to the community, hence my involvement in the Governing Body.

Laura Whitworth

Co-opted Governor

Term of office 23.11.16 - 23.11.20

My daughter started in Foundation in September 2016 and I was delighted to become a co-opted Governor shortly afterwards.

The school has lived up to my expectations and my daughter has settled in well in to school life, which is very reassuring. From day one, I was very impressed with the school, not only with the welcoming and friendly atmosphere, but the school's ethos and emphasis on environmental and sustainability issues.

I am a qualified Solicitor, specialising in employment law, and I currently work in Nottigham. I also grew up and was educated in Nottingham and three years ago I moved back after living and working in London for seven years. I believe that I can offer experience and commitment to my role as Governor and that I can make a positive contribution in supporting the school.

I have previously served as Non-Executive Director on the board at the Radford Care Group.
