What is our Eco-hub?
The Eco Hub, run by Edwalton Primary School, exists to support primary schools wanting to work on Eco projects, gain Eco Schools Awards or work towards being more sustainable. It was formed in 2011 as a response to the withdrawal of centralised support for 'Eco' work from local authorities, whihc had previously provided it.
This work is important because we teach children about their natural world and our impact upon it. We give them values of respect and love of all things. We show and share the wonder of our world. We help them understand that they can make a difference.
The Eco Hub was recognised nationally in 2012 when it won the Outstanding Sustainable School or Community Partnership Scheme Award at the TES Awards and also Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust's Protecting the Environment through Innovation Award.
Last year we ran training on:
- Introduction to Eco Schools
- Gaining the Eco School Green Flag Award
- Taking the Curriculum Outdoors
- Applying for Funding
As well as providing advice to schools on a range of environmental projects, awards and issues.
All training is free to Hub member schools.
Our Eco Hub is non-profit making and time spent on newlsetters, meetings, admin and training events far exceeds that which can be covered by supply teachers (paid for from membership fees) releasing full time teaching staff from classes to do Hub work.
We believe the work done is important, which is why we do it. We hope you do too and look forward to working with you in 2015-16.
If you would like to be a member of the Eco Hub, please could you let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, we will then invoice your school for the £30 membership fee.
Eco Hub members received a termly 'Eco' newsletter, informing then of resources, funding, competitions, events and other news that might be able to support them in their eco work.
Energy Efficiency Partnerships
Funded by the National College for School Leadership we supported 8 schools to reduce their energy consumption, using different tools to help change behaviour, better manage our resources and identify opportunities to make the heating system and lighting more efficient. The tools we are using can be used by any school.
Please take a look at the links below to see how you can use these tools.
