School Newsletter: 08/01/10

The latest newsletter is now online.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome Back

As you probably anticipated and, without tempting fate, we opened and have provided a

quality first 3 days for your child(ren).  I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to

all the staff who have shown resilience and dedication in ensuring they get here to provide

a super education.   Some staff walked or caught 2 buses to get to school.  John Reed, Lorraine

and Ian ensured the building was warm, safe and clean.  Marion arrived early with Janet to prepare high

quality, tasty hot snacks and lunches for everyone. I am confident that this will continue and in the true

spirit of Edwalton we shall overcome and embrace whatever the elements throw at us.  Finally I would

like to thank your children who have been excellent in their behaviour and attitude.  I would especially

like to thank Saplings who have had their first few days, and outdoor playtimes in the snow.  Have a lovely weekend and lets hope

next week is as exciting!  School life at Edwalton is never boring. On Sunday it is predicted to snow

again and temperatures are again predicted to drop to -6°c.  Rest assured we will do everything we

can to remain open.  Get your shovels ready because we might ask for help – seriously!

Parents’ Evening

Have you noticed that the second half-term is only 5 weeks?  I therefore propose that I switch

the Parents Evening dates to a couple of weeks later.  This will help ease the burden of several date

clashes with governor meetings, staff meetings and staff training.  The new dates are as follows:-

Wednesday 17th March – 4 – 6pm
Wednesday 24th March – 4 – 6pm

The format will be the same as last term which, according to feedback, was very successful.

Dance Club Performance Assembly

The children in Dance Club performed five wonderful, energetic and enthusiastic dances to

the whole school and 40 parents today.  It was a fabulous assembly and provided a fitting,

exciting display.  The children who performed were; Amelie Brown, Rachel Brown, Paige Curzon,

William Shaw, Emma Shaw, Rhianna Carruthers, Lizzie Hutchinson, Laura Whiteside, Isabel Fry,

Carla Fry, Ailsa Turner, Eleanor Roberts, Ilona Sawicka, Sophie Lloyd, Megan Hill, Jessica

Thompson, Laura Haywood, Shanice Kilburn, Maddie Beesley, Edie Winch, Zak Ibrahim, Meg Hudson,

Palak Goel, Holly Grimes, Poppy Fisher, Ameliah Morrison, Bhumika Goel, Kyra MacDonald, Ashlynn

Sheppard, Morgan Fox, Tamai Buchanan, Freya Panton, Ruaraidh Thomson, Annabelle Allen, Millie

Fraser, Charlotte Lee, Zac Hill, Thomas Benoke, Zharnel Bonner, Lorenza Squitieri and Millie-Jo

MacDonald.

Animal Food & Care of the Animals over the
Christmas Holidays

The price of feed is constantly increasing in
price and we are especially grateful for all

donations of bread and uncooked vegetables to feed our sheep, goats and pigs.  Please keep up

your kind donations.  If anyone has any sawdust, straw or bags of tightly packed shredded paper to

donate for animal bedding – please leave this by the feed shed, just over the fence.  Thank you.  We

could do with some polystyrene, too, to insulate the rabbit hutches during this cold weather.

May I also thank all the families and children who have supported Trish Gilbert and the school

over the holidays with the care and feeding of the farm animals.  They are Harry Thomas, Thomas

Benoke, Jasper & Jemima Chambers, Jacob Warren, Rachel Brown, Mollie Byles, Megan & Zac Hill,

Harvey & Freya Panton, Sam Asher, Matthew Kay, Edward Beale, Thomas Jaycock, Liam Dobinson,

Jack Goulding, Ross and Tara Garlick, Ellie & Charlotte Owadally.

Spanish Visitor

Carlos Crespo Largo will be visiting Edwalton from 11th January until 6th February.  He will

be hosted by the Fraser family for the first week of his visit, then with the Terzic family

for the second and third week and possibly back with the Fraser’s for week four - unless we

receive any other offers.  If any family could support this venture and can offer the

opportunity to host Carlos then please get in touch with either myself, Hannah Teasdale or

Katie Allen. In school Carlos will be working with all classes taking part in Spanish lessons and

supporting teachers with group tasks and activities.  We will also be organising various

outings for Carlos, namely to the Nottingham Playhouse, Notts. County (if they are still

‘alive’) or to Notts. Forest, Sherwood Forest and trips to places of interest in the city or

into Derbyshire should he be interested.

 Swimming

A reminder that Holly Class and Beech Class will continue swimming again on Friday mornings from

15 January for four weeks until the last session on 5 February.

Reading Everywhere We Go Competition

Thank you to everyone who sent in photographs for this.  This competition has now ended and

all the photographs we received are displayed in the library.  There will be a number of prizes

given out next week.

Library Books

Our Year 6 Librarian Teams continue to do a fantastic job of keeping our library tidy,

inputting new books onto the system and generally helping with the changing of books

etc. Well done!

Please remember that we are always keen to accept any donations of second hand books

(fiction or non-fiction) in good condition.  We have received some super books which are already

on the library shelves.  Thank you very much. Donated books should be given to Mr.Jaycock or

Mrs. Phillips.
