School Newsletter: 10/12/09

The latest newsletter is now online.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Christmas Fayre

The Christmas Fayre on Friday 4th December from 3.30pm – 5.30pm was again a well attended event. Thank you to all who helped to make this event a success. Despite the credit crunch we have managed to raise a whopping £1.9K          to date.  The Parents Association will be sending out a questionnaire soon to ask you what you think the money raised should be spent on.  Our thanks go to all the members of the Parents Association who have given many hours of their time to support the development of the school.  I sincerely wish them all and their families a happy Christmas.

  “The Shining Signing Star”

Many heartfelt thanks to all the children, parents and staff who contributed in any way to create such a wonderful nativity.  Gary Slack was touched by the performance.  He attended the dress rehearsal and the evening performance.  Both were every evocative.  He passed on his thanks and generous compliments about how as an ex-pupil his Nativity was performed.  The school featured in Wednesday December 9th’s Evening Post.  Photographs are apparently on the website.

Arts group Music for Everyone is also putting on a performance of the nativity at the Albert Hall in Nottingham on Sunday.  Tickets from £2 - £8.  Visit www.music-for-everyone.org call 01780 767398 or e-mail g.slack@sausagedogpublishing.com

If children would like to be part of the day phone quick!  They want our children!  Especially in their costumes!!

Christian Club

The Christian Club did an adaptation of the Christmas story in assembly today, based on a news team reporting on the events.  The children did very well considering they didn’t have much time to rehearse.  I’d like to say a big well done and thank you to all the children who took part – Annabelle Allen, Kelsey Neilson, Liberty Avery, Raeesa Shah, Ilona Sawicka, Georgie Brocklehurst, Clarissa Pang, Lauren Crane, Katty Brocklehurst, Sophia Hastings, Bhumkia Goel, Jasmine Blatherwick, Jordie Avery, Alex Brocklehurst, Tamai Buchanan, Sofia Shah, Chloe Beaumont and Jodie Breen.

Playground Partnership

The recent weather has been especially wet after a protracted dry spell. This series of downpours has saturated the ground especially under the new playground membrane.  I have been liaising with Playground Solutions who installed our adventure playground and they have begun remedial work to ease the water logging. The children have all been consulted and have demonstrated good levels of patience and understanding about losing playtimes over the next couple of days whilst the work is being completed.

TALES FROM THE GLOVEBOX: The Magic Library
Courtesy of the National School Partnership we are able to provide a CD, one per family, that is a resource pack and contains four extracts from different classical books. The CD in your computer will directly link to the website www.talesfromtheglovebox.co.uk. There is a special area for parents with help and advice from the National Literacy Trust on how to get their children engaged with books and discovering their creativity. Further, there are games and activities for children to enjoy. I hope that this may encourage some children to think about using audio books as a way into or an extension of reading.

 Swimming

The children in Lime, Maple, Elm and Willow have been swimming this term and there are still a number of outstanding contributions.    I realise that this is a difficult issue for all of us during theses ‘credit crunch’ times but we are trying to balance our books.  Please would you send a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the swimming as soon as possible.
